What Is Gypsum Concrete?

At Quality Controlled Floor Systems LLC, we offer a type of gypsum underlayment that is used for leveling and smoothing subfloors with surface imperfections. With gypsum concrete, our concrete flooring specialists can create the ideal surface for your floor installation, whether you plan to use carpet, hardwood, laminate, vinyl, or some other type of floor covering.

What Are Its Benefits?

Gypsum concrete comes with a variety of benefits that make it an excellent choice for new construction or remodeling in a building.

  • Fire Retardant – Gypsum concrete is known for and sought after because of its ability to slow down the spread of fire. Gypsum is a mineral whose weight is about 20% chemically combined water. The solid water turns to liquid and then gas when exposed to fire, so the steam it releases slows heat transmission.
  • Sound Control – With gypsum concrete underlayment, sound doesn’t travel between floors as easily, so families or guests don’t have to be disturbed by noise.
  • Lightweight – Gypsum concrete is lighter than ordinary concrete, which makes it easier to install and means it doesn’t require as much support from the building’s structure.
